Acrylic on canvas | September 2022
This one came about from a desire to just paint more. After years of producing almost nothing, I decided to go for it with whatever ideas I had - even if they were entirely ridiculous. So, when this one popped into my head while watching Adventure Time with the kids, I went for it.
Here's the original concept sketch pulling references together and figuring out how to make it work.
I rarely if ever start with concept sketches. Much less project them to the canvas before painting. I think I'm realizing that's the way to go.
Speaking of things I don't do, I also tend to neglect processes shots. I did snag this one while it was drying between layers. This is before the last session where I added in the darks and final highlights.
Clearly, the vibe and polish are missing. So is BMO's face. He had one before painting in the screen color, I just use pretty opaque paints. Oh, and toning down the gore was definitely the right call.
